From Little Things Big Things Grow
Year 11 Stars from Thuringowa State High School in Townsville had a brilliant time during their camp at Bowen.
The visited a farm that produces seed for other growers, a farm growing corn for supermarket sale, and the only all-female-run farm in the district.
While harvesting tomatoes, melons, beetroot and corn during the day, the girls learnt more about the process of fresh food production – from the planting of a small seed, to the harvesting, packaging and delivery all the way to the supermarkets and finally to their dinner plates.
The local Police-Citizens Youth Club also came along to run a workshop with the girls aimed at further developing their resilience and honing their leadership skills.
After all that learning, the girls took part in a wellbeing session of yoga and were encouraged to think about ways to relax and relieve stress at school and in their everyday lives.
