Stars Aiming High

As part of our focus on successful transitions into work or study after graduation, Stars is supporting some of our Townsville Stars to prepare to apply for entry into the Australian Defence Force.

In partnership with the ADF, we have been working closely with the Townsville Indigenous Recruitment Officer, Shay Macartney.

In collaboration with our Mentors, Shay has created the ‘Aim High’ program especially for our young women, so they are ready for the application process, aptitude testing and interviews. Due to Covid restrictions, the first session was held via Zoom last week.

Some of our senior girls were successful in their applications for work experience placements across the Army and Airforce. These have been delayed due to restrictions, but we hope they will be able to go ahead later in the year.

Stars Mentors also arranged for Defence to run an information session for Year 10 Thuringowa Stars, which got some of them also thinking about a career in the Army or Airforce.

Well done – and keep aiming high, you Stars!
