Star Soldier!

Katherine Stars Graduate, Lei-Lani Tabuai, is forging an amazing future for herself as a member of the Australian Defence Force!

After completing Year 12 in 2018, Lei-Lani was unsure about which pathway she wanted to follow, so she spent her first year out of school in the hospitality industry in Katherine.

One evening towards the end of that first year, as she was considering her future, she decided to apply to join the ADF.

The first step was to participate in the Army Indigenous Development Program, a pre-employment program designed to give young First Nations people the skills they need to successfully join the ADF.

Once she finished the program, she was off to the Army Recruit Training Centre at Kapooka. Lei-Lani is now a fully-fledged member of the Australian Defence Force and is based in Darwin.

Recently, our Stars NT Transitions team were invited to a Defence Force Recruiting Indigenous Influencer event to learn more about the many pathways into the ADF.

There were many guest speakers who told their story about how they entered the ADF, but the best by far was Lei-Lani, who spoke about her journey and her hopes for the future.

Everyone at Stars is so proud of her!
