Stars in the Hot Seat

Our senior Karratha Stars took part in the ‘Pilbara Hot Seat Interviews’ event this week, as part of our focus on supporting First Nations young women to transition successfully from Year 12 into employment or further study.

As part of the event, our Stars were required to dress appropriately, print up their Resumes to share with potential employers, and practise their interview skills.

The morning began with an Acknowledgement of Country by Karratha Stars Mentor, Chanti McHenry, and a welcome by Stars WA Transitions Manager, Nicole Rendell.

As the event got underway, our young women were placed in pairs, then rotated around the tables to speak with staff from local businesses and organisations. The staff first gave an introduction about their roles, then students were given an opportunity to ask questions.

After the rotations were completed, Karratha Stars hosted a morning tea, giving our young women an opportunity to mingle with staff from local businesses on a more informal basis.

Our Year 12 Stars came away from the event with a much better understanding of their employment options for next year.

A very big thank you to the ten local businesses who made the time to attend the event and offer information and support to our young women.
