Alumni Inspiration

Stars Alumni are a source of pride and inspiration to everyone at Stars. That’s why we regularly welcome them back into the Stars Room to share their stories with current students.

Over the past few months, Stars Alumni have come into all three Townsville programs to yarn to the girls about what life has been like since completing Year 12 and the pathways they are pursuing.

These visits are invaluable for our current Stars because they inspire them to continue with their schooling and to see that success is possible and comes in all different forms.

It was powerful for the current students to hear about the many different pathways available to them and that it doesn’t just have to be University for you to be successful.

Tarique, who is studying for her Certificate III in Community Studies, spoke about how she chose this course and how it is helping her decide exactly what she wants to do in the future.

Jameelie spoke about how it has been a challenge for her to find the right pathway and how hard she’s had to work hard to get to where she is – employed with Townsville City Council in a Business Traineeship.

Graduates who have visited also include:

Telita Day – at the time of her visit she was completing her Tertiary Access Course, which has now got her into a Bachelor of Science majoring in Zoology and Ecology

Rosslyn Pummeray-Byrne – studying Bachelor of Veterinary Science

Shaylahh Norway – studying Bachelor of Nursing

Jaeda Lenoy – studying Bachelor of Secondary Education (History & Japanese), which she is completing across two Universities!

All Alumi spoke about how fortunate they felt to have the support of Stars and encouraged the girls at school to take full advantage of the help offered and enjoy the fun activities as well.

Our current Stars were inspired by their stories and said it made them realise that if those girls can do it, they can too!
