This giant sand mural was created by Esperance Stars in collaboration with Esperance Primary students as part of a range of NAIDOC 2021 celebrations.
Our Esperance Stars spent time with three local primary schools, supporting younger students to celebrate NAIDOC Week and learn more about Aboriginal culture.
As they worked with the Esperance Primary School students on creating the amazing sand mural, they also explained the meaning of the Nyungar symbols used.
At Castletown Primary, students were involved in various activities, including face painting and dance. Our Stars also ran classes teaching the younger kids to sing ‘Heads and Shoulders’ in Nyungar language.
At Nulsen Primary, Esperance Stars joined the school’s NAIDOC assembly, worked with the students to create a NAIDOC mural, and ran face painting and weaving activities.
We are so proud of our students, who displayed fantastic leadership skills and showed such pride in teaching others about their culture.
