About

Stars Foundation uses a highly successful, tailored approach to provide holistic mentoring support to one of the most at-risk groups in Australia – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and young women.

Stars operates full-time, intensive support programs for Indigenous girls in schools, with the aim of improving health and education outcomes for this cohort.

Why was

Stars established?

Founder and CEO Andrea Goddard established Stars Foundation in 2015 because of the gender inequity in funding for mentoring programs supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Significant investment has been directed into a national mentoring support program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boys – Clontarf Foundation – but there has been no matching investment in a national program for the development of girls.

Before founding Stars, Andrea spent a decade at Clontarf Foundation, where she managed the development of its operations across Australia during a period of unprecedented growth.

Clontarf’s approach, using sport as a vehicle, has been shown to be effective in engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boys, with some good outcomes in attendance and engagement.

Stars has developed a similarly intensive, evidence-based approach – specifically tailored to meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and young women.

Outcomes across our programs have been consistently outstanding.
