Yarning with Elders
An important part of the Stars program is supporting our young women to connect more deeply to culture and community.
This Term, our Heatley Stars have been building a relationship with Elders from the Northern Regional Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Corporation.
Heatley Stars Mentors take our young women from Years 9, 11 and 12 to help out at the Community Centre.
Our Stars have loved getting to know local Elders and have enjoyed working with them to paint a colourful banner to help brighten up the space.
The girls have also been learning to serve tea and coffee to their Elders – making sure to serve it just the way they like it!
It’s been fantastic to see our young women having so much fun having a yarn and a laugh with their Elders – and learning so much from their stories and experiences.
