Our wonderful Katherine Stars 2016 Graduate, Jodie Kelly, is thriving on the job as a full-time member of the Grounds Staff team at Katherine Town Council.
When she was still at school, Jodie began working as a casual with McCoy’s Garden Engineering, where she got a taste for growing and tending plants. She did so well that she was offered a full-time job as soon as she finished Year 12, which she accepted.
After two years there, in January this year, Jodie was asked to apply for her current role at Katherine Town Council.
She’s doing so well that the Council has offered to put her through a Horticultural Traineeship, which would open up even more opportunities for the future.
When our NT Transitions Manager, Jason Greene, caught up with Jodie recently, she said that although she’s loving her job, she’s definitely missing being part of the Stars program.
“I really don’t think I would have graduated without Stars support,” she says.
“If I missed a day of school, the Stars team would be at my house checking up on me and either getting me to school or making sure I’d be there the next day.”
“It was so great to know that we had Mentors who were there to support us every step along the way and, most importantly, to have people who believed in each and every one of us.”
