Over the last two weeks, Pimlico Stars have taken part in a cultural program to mark National Close the Gap Day and Harmony Day.
National Close the Gap Day was celebrated with a morning tea and a yarn about the meaning of the day and the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership in improving outcomes for First Nations peoples.
One of our Year 12 students commented on how she felt that the goals of Stars Foundation are very similar to the targets in the Closing the Gap strategy.
The Harmony Day events began with an Acknowledgement of Country delivered by Year 12 Star, Kallie Sirriss. This is the second time Kallie has given the Acknowledgment of Country and she is slowly overcoming her fear of public speaking and embracing the opportunity.
Stars’ students, Elsie Kepa and Lakita Waterton, took part in some performance activities and were proud to perform alongside their peers, who are from a range of different cultural backgrounds.
