As the school year draws to a close, Stars Foundation proudly celebrates the remarkable achievements of this year’s Year 12 Graduates. It’s a moment of reflection, pride, and joy – not only for the young women who have reached this milestone but also for the Stars’ Mentors who have guided and supported them every step of the way.

This year, we are thrilled that more than 260 Year 12 students from Stars programs across Australia have successfully completed their school journey. Their dedication and resilience shine brightly, especially as many are the first in their families to graduate, which is a profound achievement that sets a powerful example for younger siblings and relatives in community.

The Stars team in Townsville, Queensland (pictured above), are feeling inspired after an incredible Stars Celebration Night to honour the outstanding achievements of all our Stars at Pimlico State High School. From academics to attendance, healthy lifestyles and community impact these talented girls showed us that the future is full of limitless potential.

A Celebration of Triumph and Perseverance

Each Graduate’s journey is a story of courage and determination. Many have overcome significant challenges to reach this point, making their success even more inspiring.

The joy and pride shared at End of Year Celebrations extend beyond the graduates themselves, touching families, Mentors, and school communities. These events are a testament to the strength and unity of the Stars community, where local partners are often proudly invited to join in the festivities.

The presentation at Yirrkala Bilingual School in the Northern Territory (pictured above) gave Stars the opportunity to come together as one to applaud the incredible achievements of our Stars girls and to pay special tribute to our Year 12 Graduates. 

Every Effort Counts: Celebrating All Achievements

At Stars Foundation, we believe that success comes in many forms. While Awards and recognition play a part, the heart of our program lies in valuing the effort and perseverance of each young woman. This inclusive approach celebrates each young woman’s unique journey and accomplishments.

End of Year events honour students who have excelled in areas such as attendance, academic achievement, and personal growth. Awards include Star of the Year, Rising Star, Leadership, Culture and Trainer of the Year which are met with cheers, tears, and heartfelt support from peers. The electric atmosphere of the End of Year celebrations reinforces the strong bonds these young women have built throughout their Stars experience.

The Tumut High School Stars (pictured above) celebrated their first End of Year event for their Year 7-12 students. It was lovely to host families, friends, school staff and organisations who have supported Stars throughout the 2024 year. It has been a massive year of accomplishments for our Stars cohort, and it was wonderful to celebrate alongside the community. A big shout out to the very deserving Award winners and the Year 9 MCs who stepped up to the challenge of speaking in front of a large crowd. We also presented our very first ‘Honorary Stars’ shirt to the school Deputy Principal as an acknowledgment and appreciation for all her support to the Stars team.

Celebrating All Our Stars

The End of Year ceremonies also shine a light on hard working and achieving students across all year levels. There is a saying “you can’t be what you can’t see” and for younger students, such as those in Year 4 or Year 7, witnessing the success of their older peers is transformative.

These events become a source of inspiration, sparking dreams and aspirations to follow in the footsteps of the senior students. By shining a light on what is possible, these End of Year celebrations cultivate ambition, foster self-belief, and build a future where every young woman can see herself achieving her fullest potential.

The Stars program at Jabiru Area School (pictured above and left) in the Northern Territory recently hosted the very highly anticipated Awards Night. Students always look forward to this event all year and it was a wonderful way to celebrate their achievements with families, friends and school staff. It was a great night filled with the girls being recognised for their participation in the program via Awards for those who had an outstanding year, student speeches, and highlights videos.

Eleven Stars graduated with their Western Australian Certificate of Education from Esperance Senior High School in Western Australia (pictured above and left), which is the largest number of Aboriginal students ever to graduate from this school.

The Smiles Say It All

The photos featured below from celebrations across the country tell a story that words cannot capture – the delight of achievement, the pride in overcoming challenges, and the shared joy of community.

Chaffey Secondary College and Mildura Senior College in Mildura, Victoria, (pictured above) recently held a combined celebration night to recognise the achievements and accomplishments of the 2024 Stars with families, community members and school staff. The night commenced with a smoking ceremony and didgeridoo performance on entry, thanks to Thomas and Tony. Year 10 Star, Elly Jo, entertained the audience with a solo guitar performance before the Stars performed a cultural dance. Year 10 Star, Harmony, opened the night with her own written Welcome to Country and then joined Year 10s, Tyler, to emcee the night. Along with the Awards, several powerful reflections were given by Year 10 and Year 12 Stars throughout the event.

The Adventure Has Only Just Begun

Founder and CEO of Stars Foundation, Andrea Goddard, said completing Year 12 is just the beginning for Stars Graduates.

“It’s inspiring to hear the young women speak about their future plans, whether it’s pursuing university studies, entering the workforce, taking a gap year, or embarking on other adventures. No matter the path, they know Stars Transitions Coordinators are here to support them as they chase their dreams,” said Andrea Goddard.

“We wish them every success and encourage them to follow their own path and what lights them up. The future is bright, and we look forward to seeing them embrace their potential.”

As Stars Foundation farewells the 2024 graduates, we welcome them into a growing network of more than 1000 Stars Alumnae, an enduring sisterhood that will continue to offer guidance, encouragement, and connection for years to come.

Stars from Wirreanda Secondary School in South Australia (pictured above) recently enjoyed their very first Awards Night which featured incredible talent by students starring in a cultural dance. Congratulations to all the Award recipients who inspire us every day and a huge congratulations to Stars Year 12 Graduate, Bella, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours. It was a night full of joy and inspiration and we look forward to making special memories for years to come.
