2016 Graduates

Ashlee graduated from Casuarina Senior College in Darwin 2016. Following a career path working in retail, today, Ashlee works with Stars Foundation at Palmerston College 10-12 in Darwin, mentoring and supporting the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and young women to thrive.

After finishing Year 12, Ashlee spent some time living in Victoria before returning to Darwin. She worked in retail for a few years before joining Stars in 2021, where she found her calling.

Reflecting on her time as a student, Ashlee says the support she received from Stars Mentors made all the difference. Ashlee recalls that before Stars Foundation, there were few programs designed specifically for young First Nations women in schools.

“Having a supportive environment and Mentors helped me get through Year 12. One of my favourite memories is one of our Year 12 camps – it was such a special experience,” said Ashlee.

“Stars gave me opportunities and experiences I wouldn’t have had otherwise,” she says.

As a proud Mentor currently working with Stars Ashlee shares a clear message for young women thinking about joining the program below.

“Do it. There is so much support offered to you throughout your schooling and as you transition into employment.”
