2024 Graduates

Makaela, Store Team Member, SA

A proud 2024 Stars Graduate, Makaela completed Year 12 at Katherine High School after being an active and engaged participant of the Stars program since Year 7.

Her pathway into the workforce began while she was still at school. Taking on a school-based traineeship at Little Mangoes Early Learning, Makaela embraced every opportunity and went on to successfully complete her Certificate III in Childcare before finishing high school.

At first, she imagined a future as a flight attendant or working with children. However, through hands-on experience during her traineeship, Makaela discovered her true passion: early childhood education and worked at Little Geckos (Tindal Childcare).

In late 2025, Makaela embraced the adventure of moving away from home and relocated to South Australia where she has successfully secured work with Stars partner, Woolworths.

Makaela  looks back on her time with Stars with deep appreciation – not just for the classroom support, but also for the experiences that shaped her journey.

She credits her Stars Mentors for guiding her through the challenges of school and supporting her to pursue this path.

“There’s been such a big change from when I first started in high school to now. The ladies at Stars were there for me every day, always checking in to make sure we were okay and on top of our work,” said Makaela.

“The Stars Mentors supported me by helping with assignments, asking questions to keep me on track, and looking over my work to make sure it was ready to hand in. Their support made a real difference.”

From school camps and fishing trips to the unforgettable Year 12 end-of-year trip, Makaela carries those memories with great fondness.

To current students, she shares words of encouragement drawn from her own experience:

“Keep pushing through to the end – it’s tough, but you’ve got this. You’re almost there, girls – just one more big step to go. The ladies at Stars are always there to support you, so don’t be afraid to reach out if you need help.”

Makaela’s story shows the power of determination and the transformative impact of support. With her passion for nurturing the next generation, she is already making a difference and inspiring others to believe in what’s possible.
